2011 Canadian Conference on Social Enterprise - Save the Date
When: November 20-22, 2011
Where: Halifax, Nova ScotiaJoin hundreds of experienced and prospective social enterprise practitioners from across Canada at the fourth Canadian Conference on Social Enterprise taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, November 20 to 22, 2011.
Learn about the difference that social enterprise makes for communities and how to do it! Share your experience and ideas with other social enterprisers and supporters! Network with social enterprise practitioners, supporters, funders, and government officials! Act on your questions, ideas or new knowledge – and make a difference to a community you care about!
The Conference:
Intensive day-long and half-day training sessions: introduction to social enterprise, demonstrating value, governance for social enterprise, business planning skills, marketing, financial analysis, social enterprise franchising, supporting and building social enterprise in Canada.
Policy Forum: a report on the state of social enterprise policy development in Canada, exciting recent developments that enable social enterprise, and a working session to address policy gaps.
Tours of local social enterprises.
Social enterprise is a proven model for building the success and sustainability of non-profit organizations. It helps non- profits meet their missions by creating employment, bringing needed goods and services to communities, promoting innovation in the marketplace, enhancing the delivery of social, environment, arts and cultural services, and strengthening their financial sustainability - all of which contribute to the strength, revitalization and economic growth of communities.
The Fourth Canadian Conference on Social Enterprise is an initiative of the Social Enterprise Council of Canada.

Diversity Foods Services Wins Again
The Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development has selected Diversity Foods to receive the 2010 Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Award in the category of Education for Sustainability. Diversity Foods was nominated by the Canadian Community Economic Development Network, and was selected for its “accomplishments and efforts and commitment to sustainability.”
Diversity Food Services is a joint social enterprise of the University of Winnipeg’s Community Renewal Corporation’s (UWCRC) & SEED Winnipeg. The announcement of this award came just over a month after Food Matters Manitoba presented Diversity with the 2010 Golden Carrot Award.
