Your article was a good read, and I like the way you write. By the way, let me recommend you an air swimmer as an awesome X-mas gift. Hope you'll like it.

You can’t read a newsletter or go to a sector conference these days without being battedheavily about the head by the concept of social enterprise. It is, according to proponents, the greatest thing since sliced bread or the remote control; it’s going to solve all of the sector’s problems and allow organizations to grow and be more sustainable and better able to serve Canadians. All we need to do is totally rewrite charity law in Canada and billions of dollars will suddenly appear to support all thesesocial enterprises.

  • Creating an Enabling Environment for Social Enterprise: A Draft Policy Framework

By roconnor - Posted on 29 December 2010

This paper makes the argument that meeting the social, environmental and economic needs of communities requires a diversity of business models and service delivery systems. Based on evolving research evidence and research papers, social enterprise is a fundamental component to this complexity.

Supporting the development, growth and success of social enterprises therefore is a central aspect of creating healthy communities. Social enterprises contribute to healthy communities through direct participation in the market and by strengthening non-profit organizations.

  • Legislative Innovations and Social Enterprise: Structural Lessons for Canada

By roconnor - Posted on 29 December 2010

This report provides a succint overview of the challenges and opportunities of developing a new legislative infrastructure to support the emergence of more social enterprise in the country.

Authors Richard Bridge and Stacey Corriveau argue that governments should modernize the organizational infrastructure that applies to social enterprise to better enable it to flourish. A relatively modest start would be new legislation enabling the creation of a legal structure specifically for the purpose of social enterprise.

I think that the report explains in a really good measure how the things are in this area and they certainly have to pay more attention to this in the future. Pret Implanturi Dentare

  • enp's Response to Community Interest Companies

By roconnor - Posted on 29 December 2010

David LePage wrote this letter to the Ministry of Finance in November, 2010 to commend the department for adding social enterprise and social finance issues to their current agenda of issues.

Very good.. i agree with it! He underlines some very important issues! It will be lovely if the Ministry of Finance would be able to understand the importance of the things that he says in there! But the letter had any effect? I wonder.
