Les entreprises sociales sont des entreprises appartenant à des organismes sans but lucratif qui participent directement à la production et/ou à la vente de biens et de services dans le but de générer des revenus et d’atteindre des objectifs sociaux, culturels et/ou environnementaux. Les entreprises sociales sont pour les organismes sans but lucratif un moyen supplémentaire de réaliser leur mission, soit contribuer à des communautés en santé.
Le Conseil pour les Entreprises Sociales du Canada est une alliance de leaders d'entreprise sociale qui mettent à profit leurs réseaux, leurs connaissances et leur expérience afin de construire un environnement favorable pour l'entreprise sociale.
